Clinical Effects of Piroxicam Intramuscular Injection in Acute Musculoskeletal Disorder





Abstract
Piroxicam has been used sucessfully in the treatment of chronic inflamatory disease such as rheumatoi. arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis and also for acute inflammatory conditions affectin: tendons, tendon sheaths, bursa, and muscle. as an oral formulation. In an acute condition it might be advantage to initiate the treatment with a parenteral fog nulation. Piroxicam parenteral is available aan intramuscular dosage foi in with a strength of 20mg/mi.
In order to investigate the efficacy & toleration of the short-term use of intramuscular piroxicam, the authors have treated 29 patients with acute musculoskeletal injury.
Results were as follows.
1. Out of 29 cases, male were 15, most of cases were young adult.
2. There were 10 ankle sprains, 7 acute low back pains, 5 A-C Joint sprains, 4 finger sprains, and 3 Achilles tendinitis.
3. An overall evaluation of Efficacy, 27 patients (93%) were excellent and good by physicians, 25 patients (86%) by patient.
4. An overall evaluation of toleration, all patisents, were good & excellent by physician, 27 patients by patient. (93%)
5. There were no remarkable side effect but 2 patients had transient mild facial edema.
6. In conclusion, the efficacy & toleration of short-term use of intramuscular piroxicam in patient of acute musculoskeletal injury were excellent.
